Amazing Drums
This is the opening track from NCR’s 1998 convention. It’s a little over 5 minutes. But the drum part makes it worth it. By 1998. I was pretty good at programming drums but I knew I wanted a real player to replace my demo drums. Todd Suchermann was and still is the drummer for Styx. He was in LA at the time and wanted the gig. We tracked his drums and the vocals at O’Henry.
Josie Aiello sings lead. Group is me, Josie, Denise Jeter and Darryl Phinnessee.
There’s a famous joke among jingle writers that the client calls up and says well, they changed the name of the product, but it shouldn’t affect your music too much. That almost happened here. We had a song called the rhythm of the world. It got approved and went into production.
Then somebody at NCR decided we needed to get the word power in there somewhere. And my client said no problem. It’ll be the power of the rhythm of the world. I thought he was kidding. He wasn’t.
